Walk the Walk Before You Talk

Before you face-off with a missionary of any religion, it is important that your own house be set in order:

  • Are you studying the Tanakh and the Oral Tradition as much as you could be? This is where the battle will take place. Know the "lay of the land" before committing yourself to a battle on it. (This might mean giving up some T.V. or sports.) Alternatively, you can go into it ignorant and just "trust HaShem". (Let me know how that goes. It seems to be working for the Christians.)
  • Are you as Torah-observant as you could be? Take on at least one more mitzvah in your daily routine.
  • Are the members of your household won to Torah-observance? Have you demonstrated your caring for loved ones before you start working with strangers?
  • Do you have a clear goal in mind for the next time you encounter a missionary? (e.g., I just want them to leave me alone; I want to persuade them to become more Torah-observant, whether Jewish or not)
  • Is it out of genuine caring for the missionary that you want to show them their error?
When these things are in order, you are ready to learn about the missionaries who will attempt to seduce you to the worship of gods that your Fathers did not know.
